Khatami Withdraws from Race

He was allegedly the "moderate' compared to current president. Just the other day he had lost support for another important politician so this not much of a shocker. In Washington the powers that be had been hoping he would remove President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who complicates the Presidents attempts to reach out to the Iranians.

TEHRAN, Iran (CNN) — Iran’s moderate former President Mohammad Khatami will not challenge President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in upcoming presidential election, the state-run Fars news agency said Monday.

Khatami said last month that he would run, ending weeks of speculation, the state-run IRNA news agency reported February 8. But the former president now says he will instead support moderate candidate Mir Hossein Moussavi, Fars reported Monday.
