Obama, Buck Stops With Me, But No One in His Admin Responsible for AIG

Now the convergence of democrats and AIG is already well documented, as well as the fact that Democrats are being phony on the issue. But at the end of the day it was President Obama who signed the stimulus legislation that contained the wording that protected the bonuses he is now outraged about. Admit that and the buck stops you, otherwise its typical bs.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Obama said Wednesday that no one in his administration had been responsible for supervising ailing insurance giant AIG but that ultimately, the buck stops with him."Nobody here drafted those contracts; nobody here was responsible for supervising AIG and allowing themselves to put the economy at risk by some of the outrageous behavior that they were engaged in," he said outside the White House. "[But] we are responsible, though. The buck stops with me."

Obama, in a defiant tone, once again lashed out at the controversial bonuses given to executives at AIG, which received $173 billion in government bailouts over the past six months.

Next time you pass an 800 billion dollar bill that you will sign, have your people read it first. By the way here is the clause Dodd put in the stimulus bill:

Here's the Cliff's Notes version of what's going on:

Chris Dodd inserted a specific provision into the stimulus that says any pay limitations would not apply to contracts agreed to prior to February 11, 2009. AIG also happens to be Chris Dodd's biggest donor. And AIGFP is housed in Connecticut.

Now the clause covers all bonuses, not AIG in particular, so Dodd could argue that it was not "pay for play" with AIG. Of course that leaves him open to the charge that it was favor for the entire finance industry. Well, Pick Your Poison Senator

Well, Dodd has Fessed up:

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Senate Banking committee Chairman Christopher Dodd told CNN’s Dana Bash and Wolf Blitzer Wednesday that he was responsible for adding the bonus loophole into the stimulus package that permitted AIG and other companies that received bailout funds to pay bonuses.

  1. Everyone should have expected Senator Dodd to do so. He has been in the Banking Industry's pocket the whole time. Look who get the most political contribution from the Financial industry.... Our beloved Senator from Connecticut. Guess who received the second most money????

  4. Yawn. Complete manufactured "controversy" by the Democrats that claim to care. Dodd is on the take, Frank is on the take (among many others on both sides of the aisle) and Obama knew exactly what he was signing and what others had promised/allowed. Has anyone been freaking out over the much larger total of bonuses paid out to Lynch employees as part of the BoA takeover? What about the auto bailout which is in reality a kickback to the unions that helped get Obama and others elected? Are the majority of people so ignorant that they can not see what is going on right in front of them? I know it is a rhetorical comment but people get what they deserve. Unfortunately, people who actually pay taxes and are intelligent enough to know are the ones being shafted. Want to baffle a Liberal (or half-arsed Republican)? Confront them with facts and logic. How is that "hope" and "change" working for you, America? 2013, Change We Can Believe In.

  5. Dodd is a light-weight. Geithner is a light-weight. Frank is a feather-weight. Obama is inexperienced. They rant and rave and push through legislation with a grand celebratory atmosphere...like that was the goal; to simply pass it. Dopes. It is the most basic businessman who would know the provisions needed to protect the buyer (ie, the Taxpayers) in a transaction. These guys can't execute basic common sense business terms, but we have them running the country!?!? We are in deep.

  9. AIG got bonuses so why can we Amercians reward ourselves and give ourselves some nice bonuses by not paying our mortgages and credit cards.
We have done a great job by being ripped off by these Fat Belly Sucking Theives.

  11. I know you have a lot of your plate Mr. President. I'm trying to be patient but my
patience is getting thin. You need to pimp slap Dodd.

  12. You people are mental. The actual tarp bill that had this in it was signed by George W Bush in September. Voted for by John McCain who is now also outraged that he approved of this. The spin on this proves once again that the republicans are vested in the failure of the American economy! Once more the GOP is nothing but in the way.

  13. "The buck stops with OBama, how original"

Yes, this is a huge change from the disaterous adminstration before him that screwed up time and time again and never admitted to making a mistake. Another huge change, no one was killed by his mistake.

While you pontificate on how intelligent you are and how stupid everyone else is, check the date on the auto bailout bill. Then ask a fourth grader who was the president when it was written, and who signed it into law. Then explain to us how George Bush is working for Obama?
