No Forensic Match on Black Water Guards

Basically the ammo could have been fired from anyone and although 30. caliber ammo was used by the Blackwater guards, its also the ammo for AK-47's, the most common insurgent weapon. In addition numerous cartridges from Yugoslavia and China were found on the scene, ammo not used by Blackwater. Of course we don't know if the shells were left from a previous incident. In a nutshell its a mess, and outside of the guards pleading guilty there is almost no reasonable way to have conclusive evidence that they are guilty.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- FBI scientists were unable to match bullets from a deadly 2007 Baghdad shooting to guns carried by Blackwater Worldwide security guards, according to laboratory reports that leave open the possibility that insurgents also fired in the crowded intersection.

Five Blackwater guards face manslaughter and weapons charges for their role in the shooting, which left 17 Iraqis dead and inflamed anti-U.S. sentiment abroad. Prosecutors say the contractors launched an unprovoked attack on civilians with machine guns and grenade launchers. The guards maintain their convoy was ambushed by insurgents.

The FBI lab reports, obtained by The Associated Press from someone not involved in the criminal case, allow for both possibilities.

  2. I thought this was basic crimelab 101. You have the gun. You recover the bullet. Markings match gun barrel. Gun proven to have shot bullet. There's no grey area here. If they can't match the bullets to the guns then Black Water didn't shoot them and they were set up to take a fall.

Why is this not national news?

  3. Bride,
Because too many liberals screamed guilty until proven innocent.
