Chavez is in the middle of a crackdown and turning Venezuela into a totalitarian state. There is no aspect of that country which he isn't trying to control. From his economic takeovers to the oppression of political opponents. The President does not need to provide this tyrant any propaganda victories, sadly, Obama did just that. Of course this is the same Chavez who is also supporting the Genocidal tyrant of Sudan. Lets see there was also the time Chavez thugs tear gassed the Vatican Embassy , used plastic bullets on college students , and of course booted out the ambassador from Israel.
By the way here are some highlights from the State Department report on Human Rights abuses in Venezuela:
(NGO) Venezuelan Program of Action and Education in Human Rights (PROVEA) reported 39 deaths resulting from mistreatment while in custody.
- PROVEA documented 247 unlawful killings by government security forces from October 2007 through September.
- PROVEA recorded four victims of killings allegedly involving police forces in the 12 months through September.
- According to PROVEA, on July 4, 19-year-old Roger Oscar Avila was shot and killed by unknown members of the Caracas Metropolitan Police. Avila, who, according to police officials planned to steal a car at gunpoint, was brought to the Perez Carreno Hospital and pronounced dead upon arrival. Avila's family members denied police allegations of attempted auto theft, stating that Avila did not know how to drive a car, let alone steal one.
- On July 27, 33-year-old Miguel Baba Barroyeta was placed in custody and sent to the El Rodeo jail. He was shot and killed while in the custody of the National Guard after allegedly insulting a guard.
- On October 23, nine Lara state police officers and two National Guardsmen allegedly kidnapped six persons in Lara State and later tortured and killed them execution style in neighboring Portuguesa State. Five of the victims were minors. The killings reportedly were linked to drug turf battles. At year's end the Ministry of Interior and Justice had suspended the nine police officers pending further investigations. Formal charges were brought against the 11 suspects on December 18.

You wanted it, America, you got it. Via Tapper, the long-awaited meeting between the “destructive force” and the “ignoramus” hath come to pass. There are already a few photos of the encounter at Yahoo News but you have to go to Facebook for the best one. Check out that thousand-watt grin. Funding FARC, imprisoning dissidents, staging wargames with Russia, and of course consolidating dictatorial power — none of it’s enough to ruin a photo op for The One. I hope this at least convinces El Presidente not to throw that Cuba-themed tantrum at the summit that he’s been planning. We deserve something in return for the free propaganda Barry just handed him.
Why not reach out to the other dictator?
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad and Tobago (CNN) -- In remarks to be delivered Friday to representatives of 34 countries at the Summit of the Americas here, President Obama says he is seeking "a new beginning" in U.S. relations with Cuba.
What Chavez is really up to:
The government is picking off its main opponents one by one. Manuel Rosales, the mayor of Maracaibo, Venezuela’s second city, and the opposition’s defeated candidate in the 2006 presidential election, has gone into hiding to avoid arrest on corruption charges. The government claims he has left the country, although his family and his lawyers deny this.
On April 2nd, General Raúl Baduel, a former defence minister, was arrested at gunpoint in front of his wife by military-intelligence agents. Also accused of corruption, he was a key ally of Mr Chávez but has been treated by the regime as a traitor since he went into opposition 18 months ago. Several other opposition leaders, as well as former chavista politicians, face similar accusations. Others have been banned from standing for election on the same grounds. Yet Mr Chávez shows no inclination to investigate the many claims of corruption concerning his government.
He has been even less subtle with Antonio Ledezma, an opponent who was elected mayor of Caracas last year. His offices have been taken over by chavista mobs. A law is being rushed through parliament to render his post largely symbolic, by creating a powerful, appointed vice-president for Caracas. According to Mr Ledezma, the government “is acting outside the constitution,” while the courts are more like “firing-squads”
(CNN) – Sen. John Ensign, R-Nevada, told CNN Sunday it was "irresponsible" for President Obama to been seen "laughing and joking" with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez at the Summit of the Americas on Friday.(yes it was)
Now we have political opponents fleeing the country.LIMA, Peru (CNN) -- A Venezuelan mayor who says President Hugo Chavez is persecuting him on trumped-up corruption charges is seeking political asylum in Peru, his lawyer said Tuesday..

WTF
ReplyDeleteWow! In the US, from 2003-2005 2,002 custody-related deaths were reported in 47 states and the District of Columbia. So, I'm not sure what your point is regarding the Venezuelan police?
ReplyDeleteSomeone told me once that our president is a pushover. I really think about it now.
ReplyDeleteOf course, nothing is wrong to talking to Chavez but come on... this man has been known for anti US for his own agenda, everyone knew that. Obama does not need to hug him to start talking to him.
It wasn't really a handshake or a hug. Chavez lost his balance and began to fall. Our hero was just trying to save him by lending a hand. It was not a handshake. It was not a handshake. It was not a handshake. It was not a handshake.
ReplyDeleteHA!
Geez,
ReplyDeleteI have proudly served this country for 24 years (retiring soon) Thank God!!! (Did I say that out loud)? I can not believe I have defending this country against Communism, Dictators and anyone who could cause harm to our way of life. We are becoming weak and submissive shaking Dictators hands and bowing to others. Heck I would say even a little smooching of some booty (not seen on TV yet). Wow have we been blowing money (well Congress and the President have) does anyone realize that a billion minutes takes us back about 40 years a trillion has to set us back to the time B.C. in minutes. Well that puts maybe what is going in better perspective. I think that Congress and the white house need to take pay cuts and get no bonuses just like those CEO’s that got bailout money.
At least thy could Kiss us before they Screw us Foreplay would be nice
ReplyDeleteall you racist white people here are going to hell, all because of your hate and lack of compassion for people around the world to be masters of their own future and indigenous resources. Let me get it right the world belongs to white conservative bigots.Good luck , you will burn in hell for ever. There is God, after white conservative tyranny, God will hand out justice after this earthly life.
ReplyDeleteChavez says he would like to be friends with Obama while at the same time mutters out of the other side of his mouth that he would allow Russia to use his country as an air force base. I guarentee, I guarentee that he can not be trusted and he will use Obama for propoganda purposes.
ReplyDeleteMr. Obama is a genuine human being with a God sent desire to help the peoples of the world to unite. Maybe that's idealistic, but any move towards a more peaceful world should be welcomed by us.
ReplyDeleteAll the sabre rattling, unilateral decisions for invasions, and demonizing other countries and races have not brought any semblance of hope towards that goal.
Obam is in charge, and will not let anyone bite his hand after he offers it in friendship, I firmly believe. He deserves our support for making historic strides in the direction of peace.
2nd anonymus,
ReplyDeleteYou can't see the difference between people arrested for opposing Chavez and those arrested for possible crimes, that is on you.
Venezuela may very well be our roadmap of where the US is headed seeing as how we have a loving president who plays the class warfare card like it is going out of style. How exactly do people think that Chavez has been able to reshape the political landscape of Venezuela so quickly on the road to his Socialistic Eutopia where any company that he sees trying to make a profit and not working to wholeheartedly work for the good of the people has their business confiscated by the government?
ReplyDeleteAnd Why do we need to trust this over-stuffed toad with the red shirts for? Quick Obama pure bleach on the hands will get rid of the cooties.
ReplyDeleteWhatg is wrong with you people and your mistrust of our President, I think that he truly is trying to do something that should have been done a long time ago...gain the trust of others--not just our rich Europe neighbors, but all countries because lets face it we are all in this together--I wish him the best because I think that is what he is trying to do..his best and if you think that you could do any better??? Whatever
ReplyDeleteOnly less than a week ago Mr.Chavez called mr.Obama, "IGNORANT". This are the times where honor and character are no longer ingredients compounding the character that true statemanship demands. South America as usual in its enviroment; now the dictatorships are from the Left; the increativity does not change of course. USA? well, playing the sheep won't satiate all those wolves we have to confront, that world out there.
ReplyDelete"Mr. Obama is not a God sent..." he supports abortion and gay marriages, what is wrong with idiot?! This is what the Bible talks about before they start killing christians for believing God.
ReplyDeleteNow, now !!! He promised he would bow and scrape to all of enemies. You voted for the -------. He is only giving us away like he promised he would
