One Day After Predicting Terror Attacks on US, Predator Blows up Taliban Commanders Compound

No word on whether Baitullah Mehsud was among the dead, but at least as many as 12 killed. IN addition to various attacks and possibly the recent academy attack, Mehsud is a prime suspect in the assassination of Bhutto, in other words a very bad man. Is this part of the Afpak strategy, or simply a continuation of existing policy? Other then that its the first strike ever in the Orakzai Agency, its a region a little bit further into Pakistan and is located to the East of Wazirastan.

ISLAMABAD (AP) -- A suspected U.S. drone fired two missiles Wednesday at an alleged hide-out connected to a Taliban leader who has threatened to attack Washington, killing 12 people and wounding several others, officials said.

The attack came a day after Pakistani Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud claimed responsibility for a deadly attack on a police academy in the eastern city of Lahore, saying it was retaliation for U.S. missile strikes on militant strongholds along the Afghan border. Mehsud also vowed to launch an attack on Washington or even the White House in phone interviews with The Associated Press and local media.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) -- A suspected U.S. missile strike killed eight people in in the violence-plagued tribal region in northwestern Pakistan Wednesday, a local political official said.

The strike occurred in the Orakzai Agency, one of seven regions that make up the Federally Administered Tribal Areas along the border with Afghanistan. Pakistani and U.S. officials have reported a presence of militants in the region.

The official, Basir Orakzai, said some victims of the attack were trapped under rubble.

It is the first suspected U.S. missile strike in the Orakzai Agency, based on a CNN tally.
