The President has reversed himself on punishing Americans who have protected us, why now? It could be that when they sent out the memos and "
accidentally" leaked information they may have created too much of a firestorm on the left. Or is the President and the Democrats scared for their political future. Its now clear that the President is
delusional on the budget and was somewhat
rattled by the Tea Parties, leading to
his absurd lets cut the budget show the other day. In addition its clear the Presidents
ineffectual performance in Europe as well as his
disastrous performance in Trinidad are starting to have an effect on his popularity and the Democrats
as a whole. Today Rasmussen has his
approval at 54%, not bad but hardly the stratosphere. The other aspect is the growing evidence of corruption by Democrats such as
Diane Fienstein,
Jack Murtha,
Harman, Maxine Waters,
Steve Rattner and the general sense that this is an administration of elites more concerned about enriching themselves and their allies, then aiding the working and middle class. Add to this the
disastrous DHS report which smeared veterans and attempted to criminalize political opposition. How else do you explain the Presidents flip flop today in regards to prosecuting his political opponents., this President needs to firm up support with left, and the easiest way for him to do it,
hint at prosecutions.
WASHINGTON — President Obama on Tuesday left open the door to creating a bipartisan commission that would investigate the Bush administration’s use of harsh interrogation techniques on terrorism suspects, and he did not rule out taking action against the lawyers who fashioned the legal guidelines for the interrogations.
Via HA, who else is he going to prosecute?
That leaves George Tenet and the OLC attorneys, but they didn’t conduct the torture, and the OLC didn’t order the interrogations, either. They responded to a request from the CIA to opine on the legality of the procedures. Holder can prosecute Tenet, but then he’d also have to file charges against several members of Congress who were briefed on the procedures and never objected — including current Speaker Nancy Pelosi. If Tenet would get prosecuted for ordering the interrogation techniques, then Pelosi and others would have to get prosecuted for being accessories in not taking action to stop them.
Perhaps he will also listen to
Cheney but I wouldn't count on it.
"The President has reversed himself on punishing Americans who have protected us, why now?"
ReplyDeleteThat is your topic sentence. I was taught in my 5th grade writing class that all ideas should relate to the topic sentence, rather than just ramble on seemingly unrelated "facts". I guess that you can't debate the fact that it may have been wrong for those at the very top of the Bush administration to order torture, so you have to resort to spewing out the usual crap. Try a more intellectual approach next time, it might get you a little further.
I can't wait for the trials to begin!
ReplyDeleteThis will make the Clinton Impeachment or the Clarence Thomas hearings look like family spats.
If they've done no wrong? What are they soooo worried about? They'll prove to us all how much fun their techniques are and bushels full of useful information will be splashed all over front pages.
They'll have us all so convinced we'll change the constitution and bring Bush and Chaney back for more.
I'll bet they're all peeing themselves after the news today.
This is a disaster for our interrogations of any kind. First, he discloses to what lengths we can go in interrogations (thus the very very evil terrorists know that they will be able to hold out on information altogether, since even the threat of a major hurtin' is off the table...that is so stupid). Now he will prosecute those who allowed it...and that will seal the deal because even his genious cannot anticipate all situations that interrogators will face...but if they might be prosecuted, they will use even less than the allowable just to be sure they won't end up in jail.
ReplyDeleteNo more info from terrorists to save our citizens (unless extensive glad-handing will work with them!)
He can appear so dopey sometimes when he caters to the congressional amateurs.
first anonymous,
ReplyDeletethe topic is that the President needs to secure his base by throwing them bones, like dogs, to cover up the massive corruption breaking out all over. It seems to have worked with you.
