The Basques has been put on the defensive by the Spanish and French authorities for some time now, we can hope this is one of the last gasps of the terror group.
MADRID — A car bomb blamed on the Basque militant group ETA killed a police inspector Friday when it exploded in a town near Bilbao, authorities said.
The official, Antonio Eduardo Pueyes Garcia, was in his car in a parking lot in the Santa Elena neighborhood of Arrigorriaga, about six miles km south of Bilbao, when it blew up just after 9 a.m., a spokesman for the Basque regional police said. The spokesman, who spoke on condition of anonymity under police rules, said, “The characteristics of the attack pointed to it being the work of ETA.”
ETA has often used limpet bombs, which are attached to the underside of a car, to target victims such as policemen and politicians. Spokesmen for the national and the Basque police could not confirm press reports that Mr. Pueyes was an anti-terrorist officer.
