The U.S. military is tracking the North Korean ship shown here, called the Kang Nam.
This would be the first report of the United States acting on the UN resolution passed last week. Remember, they have a right to follow and then have to ask permission to board. Force has not been authorized, in other words its a toothless action, for now at least.
The U.S. military is tracking a flagged North Korean ship suspected of proliferating weapons material in violation of a U.N. Security Council resolution passed last Friday, FOX News has learned.
The ship, Kang Nam, left a port in North Korea Wednesday and could be carrying weaponry, missile parts or nuclear materials. The U.S. military has been tracking it since its departure. It is believed to be 'of interest,'" a senior U.S. official told FOX News.
This is the first suspected "proliferator" that the U.S. and its allies have tracked from North Korea since the United Nations authorized the world's navies to enforce compliance with a variety of U.N. sanctions aimed at punishing North Korea for its recent nuclear test. The apparent violation raises the question of how the United States and its allies will respond, particularly since the U.N. resolution does not have a lot of teeth to it.
The resolution would not allow the United States to forcibly board the ship. Rather, U.S. military would have to request permission to board -- a request North Korea is unlikely to grant.North Korea has said that any attempt to board its ships would be viewed as an act of war and promised "100- or 1,000-fold" retaliation if provoked.
The real threat that North Korea has on the world is Seoul located very near the border the North Koreans might be capable of inflicting mass casualties on the civilians there. Apparently the Kang Nam has been used before in weapons running. As of now no word on what banned weapons are actually on the boat. In addition North Korea may be planning a long range rocket aimed at Hawaii as a further provocation, the missile in question is the Taepodong-2, the same weapon tested last month.
This is getting ridiculous. Why US can't take the peace route for change. No matter who's in the power, we can't seem to find peace. Before Bush call them "Axis of Evil" for Iran and North Korea, I believe KimJungIL was looking for economic means for his people following China's economic model. Which made the free trade zone in North Korea come true.
ReplyDeleteWhy not try peace? Let's remove all the restrictions to North Korea and see if they are willing to risk everything by going Nuclear. Unless Obama is trying to save US Auto industry by creating war to destroy Korea and Japan, we should leave them alone; talk about Killing the Competition. I din't vote for Obama to continue this un-peaceful resolution; I thought we'll be in different situation then that ignorant B*sh&D*ck fu*king up US.
If we continue po push the poor and dying of hunger by millions due to all the blockade that's been put on the North Korea, they will make a choice. Either dying by hunger and cold or throw everything they got before getting destroyed; no one knows what this would limit to. In Korea, there's proverb, "If you step on a worm then it will twitch".
Obama is not capable of dealing with North Korea or Iran.
ReplyDeleteHe is too busy apologizing around the world and granting rights to gays in Federal employment.
@First Anonymous: Yes because military action is allways the first route the US has allways taken (sarcasm). We have tried to be peaceful with N. Korea but the N Korean Goverment has not been so willing, either with the U.S. or its neighbors S Korea and Japan.
ReplyDeleteN. Korea is the antagonist in this situation, as hard as it may be for you to believe. In fact the US, S Korea, and Japan have been extremely liberal when it comes to N Korea, what with them firing missiles all the time and pretty much saying "Fuck you" to them. Now N. Korea's threatning to launch a missile near Hawaii, if the do, then the time for peace talks is over, and the time for Naval strikes arrives.
With closed mind, blinded eye, made you ignorant and it made you miss all the things I've said; "Since Bush called them "Axis of Evil". No one's challenging or have power enough to face against US. US has all the Nuclear Bombs in the world.
ReplyDeleteI don't think they have any power to shoot ICBM across Pacific. They will be luchky if the missles doesn't return right back to them.
It's the power struggle within that hermit kimdom. Old Kim trying to get the baby Kim in Power and trying to get some change and attention in the process.
Nothing to worry about and tension. Eventhough they are Nurotic; they aren't Psychos.
"Try Peace"--
ReplyDeleteI'm very relieved that you "don't think they have the power to shoot an ICBM across Pacific". I'm sure the people of Hawaii and Alaska would feel much better if we could just get that message out to them.
So let me get this straight, if a North Korean missile, capable of carrying a nuclear/biological/chemical warhead, lands on Waikiki Beach...we should?...
The Norks are the agressors here, not the USA. The USA IS taking the peace route. The USA is not threatening to launch missiles at North Korea on the 4th of July.
