Stars Aligned, Truth Missing, and Mask Slips as Obama Attacks Profits and Doctors

Profit as Enemy

Update AP Fact Check Tears Obama a new one.

Not much new here besides the Presidents opposition to the profit motive, which by the magic of Obama will improve care and reduce costs. Of course if insurance companies are bankrupted or forced to lower their prices, these alleged "savings" will easily be offset by the massive tax increases that are guaranteed. By the way his attack on Doctors for being rotten greedy people who are bankrupting the system is pathetic. I wonder of the A.M.A which recently issued a statement of support for Obama cares to comment on that?

The president offered long, and at times technical, responses as he sought to explain this highly complicated subject. He took questions from just 10 reporters, a low number even for him, reflecting how long his answers were (one clocked close to eight minutes). By the end, it was clear just how tough a subject this is to explain, even for a communicator of Mr. Obama’s abilities.

Mr. Obama appeared to drop his insistence that both houses complete a bill before the August recess, and signaled that he was open to the tax plan drafted by House Democrats that would place an income tax surcharge on families making over $1 million a year. He took shots at he described as opposition to his plan by Republicans that he described as motivated by partisan gamesmanship.

He grew most animated when he explained why it was he was insisting that Congress act now, saying the default position in Washington was to do nothing, and that the “stars were aligned” for action.

By stars aligned I guess they mean a Democrat controlled Congress. Either way it looks like plans as expected are on hold which is somewhat noteworthy, if only for the fact the President himself implied it might be okay to wait till fall. The most amusing part is that by spending trillions we can balance the budget:

In a televised evening news conference, Obama said the biggest driving force behind the federal deficit was skyrocketing healthcare costs for the government's Medicare program of healthcare for the elderly and Medicaid for the poor.

"If we do not control these costs, we will not be able to control our deficit," he said after another day when leaders in Congress struggled to find common ground on the cost and scope of a healthcare plan, Obama's top legislative priority.

Hopes dimmed in Congress that lawmakers could meet Obama's goal of passing early versions by the August summer recess, but Obama said the "stars were aligned" to win the plan this year and appealed to congressional leaders to help Americans facing higher insurance premiums or lacking insurance.

All in all it was the same argument he has been making without being forthright about the costs and benefits of the plans he is peddling. Either way he still trapped in two competing views of health care and no speech is going to change that. Final thought, does the president think attacking GOP straw man or Senators will somehow change the opinions of people who are afraid their health care will be ruined and the government bankrupted. More to the point should a president stoop lower to attack opponents with much less power. I know he had his absurd Rush Limbaugh line of attack, but he is the President, sometimes I believe he forgets that and thinks he is candidate Obama.
