Iran Puts UK Staff on Trial

As part of their myth making that the Iranian opposition was, dare I say it, "astro-turfed", The thugs running Iran have decided to put innocent people on trial to prove a western conspiracy.

LONDON (AP) -- Britain's Foreign Office says a staff member at its embassy in Iran has been put on trial in Tehran.

The ministry says it saw Hossein Rassam pictured among those accused at a mass trial that began Saturday in the Iranian capital, though Rassam had been released from detention in July. At the time Iranian authorities alleged he had harmed national security during protests that followed the country's disputed presidential elections.

Disgusting and positively Stalinist.

"This is completely unacceptable and directly contradicts assurances we have repeatedly been given by Iranian officials," a UK Foreign Office spokesman said.

"We deplore these trials and the so-called confessions of prisoners who have been denied their basic human rights. Our ambassador in Tehran has demanded early clarification of the position of the Iranian authorities. We will then decide how to respond to this latest outrage."

Earlier Saturday, Iran's state-controlled media reported that the trials of nearly 100 Iranians arrested following the demonstrations had resumed.
