Langford Attorney Complains About Negative Attention

Yes and the news reports of destroying the county over nice suits have softened the jury. Seriously, the allegations of corruption involving the bingo parlors seem almost quaint compared to his role in the muni-bond scandal:

TUSCALOOSA | The attorney for embattled Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford is worried that two lawsuits alleging Langford’s special treatment at two Alabama bingo parlors will affect his upcoming federal corruption trial.

“We are concerned about whether these matters will unfairly taint the jury pool,” said Michael Rasmussen, the court-appointed lawyer who is defending Langford against 101 federal counts of bribery and conspiracy.

In August, Rasmussen convinced the court to move Langford’s corruption trial from the Southern Division of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama, based in Birmingham, to the Western Division, in Tuscaloosa.

Part of his argument was that the Southern Division’s potential jurors had been corrupted by “almost entirely negative” publicity about Langford in Birmingham. But two civil suits, one filed in September in Macon County and another filed in October in Greene County, have alleged that Langford benefited from rigged gambling machines at VictoryLand near Montgomery and at Greenetrack near Eutaw.

The Mayor use a rigged machine, I am shocked! As for his corruption and bribery trial we have one week till the big show:
